Dr Mark Harrison has 20 years’ experience in Ophthalmology. He has a special interest in cataract, pterygium, glaucoma and oculoplastic (procedures that deal with the eye socket, eyelids, and tear ducts) surgery. As well as the medical treatment of diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Dr Harrison has practiced as a specialist ophthalmic surgeon in Pietermaritzburg since 2004
A graduate of both the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN), where he obtained his degrees in medicine and ophthalmology respectively,

Dr Harrison’s practice is a centre of excellence in local eye health care. Dr Harrison is joined in his practice by two ophthalmic assistants, Thabile and Sashnie, and Sandy at reception.

Of the new Pietermaritzburg Eye Hospital in Alan Paton Drive, from where he now practices, Dr Harrison is a registered specialist ophthalmologist with both the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and is also registered as a Medical Practitioner with the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC).
