Dr Mark Harrison
Born and raised in Cape Town, Dr Mark Harrison obtained his MBCHB degree from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1989 and thereafter did his internship at Edendale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
In 2002, he graduated as an ophthalmologist from the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN), where he obtained his FCS (SA) Ophth.
In 2004, he moved back to Pietermaritzburg and joined the ophthalmology department at Greys Hospital. Later that year, he entered private practice at Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and Mediclinic Howick.
Dr Harrison still works at Greys Hospital on a sessional basis and is an honorary lecturer with the Department of Ophthalmology at UKZN.
A co-founder of the new Pietermaritzburg Eye Hospital, from where he now practices,Dr Harrison is a member of the following professional bodies:
- Registered as a specialist ophthalmologist with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Practice No MP 0348724
- Registered with the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC), GMC No 3594146
- Member of the Ophthalmologist Society of South Africa (OSSA)
- Member of the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SASCRS)
Dr Harrison is joined in his practice by two ophthalmic assistants, Thabile and Sashnie, along with Sandy at reception.
Married to Lynelle, Dr Harrison and his wife have a daughter and son together. An avid outdoors enthusiast, in his spare time, his interests include surfing, hiking, fishing and long-distance running.
Working wth a trained team, Dr Harrison’s practice is a centre of excellence in local eye health care. Dr Harrison is joined in his practice by two ophthalmic assistants, Thabile and Sashnie, and Sandy at reception.
